Chemicals found in grape seeds significantly inhibited growth of colorectal tumors in both cell cultures and in mice, according to researchers who have already demonstrated the extract's anti-cancer effects in other tumor types. Their study, published in the October 18 issue of Clinical Cancer Research, documented a 44 percent reduction of advanced colorectal tumors in the animals, and also revealed, for the first time, the molecular mechanism by which grape seed extract works to inhibit cancer growth. The authors found that it increases availability of a critical protein, Cip1/p21, in tumors that effectively freezes the cell cycle, and often pushes...

Virtual Biopsy Can Tell Whether Colon Polyp Is Benign Without Removal, Researchers Say ScienceDaily (May 22, 2008) A probe so sensitive that it can tell whether or not a cell living within the human body is veering towards cancer development may revolutionize how future colonoscopies are done, say researchers from the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. Investigators have found that technology known as a high resolution confocal endomicroscopy probe system can determine whether a colon polyp is benign (not precancerous) - without having to remove it for examination by a pathologist. Their study, to be presented at the Digestive...

Vitamin D And Calcium Influence Cell Death In The Colon, Researchers Find ScienceDaily (Apr. 14, 2008) Researchers at Emory University are learning how vitamins and minerals in the diet can stimulate or prevent the appearance of colon cancer. Emory investigators will present their findings on biological markers that could influence colon cancer risk in three abstracts at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in San Diego. In a clinical study of 92 patients, supplementing diet with calcium and vitamin D appeared to increase the levels of a protein called Bax that controls programmed cell death in the colon....

According to liberal weatherman Sam Champion, who admiringly recounted Mr. Beavens story, "The rules may seem a little extreme." A little? Co-anchor Diane... |

To: All I'd like to thank everyone here for all your prayers and support the past 10 days. It has meant so much to me and my family. As you know there was NO cancer and because my descending colon takes a few turns and "s" curves, I still have more colon than most people!!! As it turns out, the radiation therapy that I had in 1974, which shriveled two arteries by 1996 leading to an arterial bypass, is the culprit once again. My transverse colon was shriveled and fused to my spleen. The Doctor was unable to separate the...
